My Wedding Photography Story – Part 2

The Wedding Lead-up

I tip toed down the hallway trying not to disturb my bridesmaids and soon to be mother in law, who had spent the night within various areas of the house. Put the kettle on and sat down to read the paper dated two days prior. Almost immediately out scrambled the overnight visitors. Looking like they had no where near the relaxed night I had, I poured everyone a cup of coffee and we began our conversation about the topic of the moment, ‘the wedding’. My wonderful mother in law to be, made us a wonderful breakfast and the butterflies grew stronger within my stomach. I often wondered how my other half was doing, and worst of all whether or not he would still be sober enough to stand at the end of the aisle, let alone converse his vows.

After a wonderful breakfast, we all then proceeded to the hairdressers, where the vibe of excitement was carried through the atmosphere. All our hair and faces were magically transformed into beautiful masterpieces, and we all felt like princessess being waited on with our glass of champagne. Leaving the salon, a slight embarrassment fell over me. I never realised how out of place you feel when everything about you is glamourous except for your attire, consisting of a pair of daggy shorts and a button up shirt that looked like it had come out a ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ movie. Anyway, we all got back into the car and headed home once more to finally get the missing pieces into place.

The day was perfect, however the only attribute I can really look back on with slight disappointment is the photographer on the wedding day. In saying this, the photographer is in no way responsible for my feelings and could not have possibly changed one relatable moment about that day. This upset is purely my mistake and my mistake only, and I wish to share the this lesson learnt with every bride to be.

I have briefly touched on this subject matter within other posts on this blog, however I want to elaborate more on the importance of choosing a photographer that you can relate to, the necessity that they share your passion and enthusiasm on your wedding day. Mine did not, which is not to say she was not happy with a smile on her face, just that the ‘magic’ was missing. The feeling of being another bride to ‘get through’ so she could get home, was foremost on my mind.

Let me take you through this wonderful day ……………….

Firstly, I had stayed the night in our home and had awoken feeling very excited about how the day would unfold. My fiancee at the time had spent the night at his uncles place, so I had our whole bed to myself. Which was a refreshing change from awakening having his elbow wedged into my neck. So after a great night sleep and an amazing awakening, I was feeling on top of the world.
